1500 Hour Hairstyling Program

The Oakville College, School of Hair Design 1500 hour hairstyling program: whether you are fresh out of high school, college or the workplace, desire a change of careers, have the time to develop your own career after raising children, or are taking our course for interest, there has never been a better time than now to pursue a rewarding, self-directing career in hairstyling.

Oakville College School of Hair Design is registered and approved as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act. Our 1500 hour hairstyling curriculum is consistent with apprenticeship guidelines for this trade. All units in this program are mandatory components that must be completed in order to both succeed at the governments examination for obtaining the Ontario Certificate of Qualification, and to meet basic appren\ticeship standards.

The director of Oakville College School of Hair Design has been a hairdresser since 1978, is a graduate of the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, certified and teaching in secondary schools since 1995, and is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. This recent, relevant educational background directs the commitment of Oakville College to ensure that all curriculum will be delivered professionally, competently and consistently.

Oakville College offers intake of students each new month, for a full-time schedule of ten months. The school also offers intake of students each new month for part-time schedules up to twenty months. (Students are required to make up for hours missed due to absences). Oakville College will develop an individualized program based on full classroom participation in both theory and practical applications in the hairstyling curriculum. All students will participate in our in-school hair salon, where students will obtain hands-on practical experience on live models (customers). This course also integrates basic computer experience in the salon management/business component of the program, whereby students will develop their own résumés, covering letters, and business cards. Students will be part of a class that starts the program together, and develops skills together as a group, but each student's program will be designed to meet his/her own unique needs.

This course is the first step to a world of exciting opportunities in the Personal Services sector, one of the most diverse and rapidly expanding sectors of our economy today. We look forward to providing you with a solid foundation for this most important first step.
